Using nanotechnology, 3M has created ceramics so fine that they are not only invisible to the naked eye, but they are also imperceptible with an ordinary microscope. Another amazing feature 3M mentions is that their Ceramic Window Films will maintain their appearance for years to come. In comparison to sputtered metal films that the company says can corrode over time and change color on the edges, or films that rely on dyes and are therefore prone to fading over time, 3M Ceramic Films retain their color and appearance over time.

    Transportation- My bnriyfeod and I live in Arlington, VA in a small apartment. The area is great because it allows to either to walk to and from work and class or take public transportation in inclement weather. We have one car between the two of us and drive, on average, less than 10 miles/week. With skyrocketing gas prices and out of control climate change, it saves us money and helps alleviate our consciences. Food & Comestibles- We try to buy local, organic and minimally packaged foods as much as we can to help reduce the carbon footprint used in transportation and shipping, synthetic fertilizers, and farm equipment. We use reusable canvas bags and we predominantly try to buy from socially and environmentally conscientious companies that use sustainable products. We have also substantially reduced our meat intake and now both largely vegetarian. Waste- We both have BPA free Nalgene water bottles and a Brita water filter so we do not use and then discard countless plastic water bottles. We recycle as much as we can (which due to reduced packaging is not much) and we compost all of our food scraps and biodegradable material for our houseplants and our future container garden. We take out our trash about once a month or less. Utilities- We installed a low-flow shower head in our apartment and made sure the running toilet was fixed as soon as possible to minimize water usage and we keep the thermostat at a cool 60-65 degrees in the winter (blankets and sweaters are incredible items on chilly days!) and use minimal air conditioning during the summer. It may not seem like much, but I like to think that all of these things collectively make a difference…
