Alex E-Book Reader released earlier than expected

Alex e-reader

With all the brouhaha surrounding Apple’s recent release of the i-Pad, it’s easy to forget that January’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) showcased several promising e-book readers. Although many of the products have not made it to market, Spring Design’s slick-looking Alex started shipping orders on April 14.

The $399.00 Alex features a dual-screen, Android-based reader. The first Alex models are able to access Google Books and include a micro-SD card slot for sideloading. While this makes the reader enjoyable now, a 3G version is planned for a June release intended to coincide with the launch of the Borders eBook store.

June is not that far off, so people who were wowed by the Alex at CES can pick up their very own Alex today and be ready for all that terrific Borders supported accessibility in a few months.
