Ascent Solar FlexPower CIGS Thin-Film boasts 12% Efficiency [Video]
Ascent Solar presents FlexPower CIGS thin-film at Solar Power International
Ascent Solar introduced a new flexible CIGS thin-film product, called FlexPower, at this year's Solar Power International conference. FlexPower is thin-film on plastic. It is a pretty innovative product with some phenomenal architecture applications in building integrated photovoltaics, in addition to applications on electrical appliances such as cell phones and laptops. Rafael, from Ascent Solar, talks to the Buildaroo News Team about the FlexPower CIGS thin-film characteristics. Video below.
Ascent Solar's FlexPower monolithic plastic CIGS thin-film has a 14% cell efficiency and a 10-12% efficiency at the module level. As far as cost, when you take into account the cost of BOS, balance of systems, you can see a 20 - 25% cost reduction when using FlexPower.
Currently, FlexPower is the only monolithic plastic CIGS thin-film on the market, although 3M is working on a similar CIGS thin-film to be released sometime next year.
The biggest potential market for Ascent Solar FlexPower is building integrated photovoltaics, according to Rafael. Other markets include electronic integrated photovoltaic, defense industry, and transportation. Ascent Solar sells directly to OEMs and VARs, as well as to integrators. Ascent Solar currently has a manufacturing capacity of 4 - 5 megawatts for its FlexPower CIGS thin-film, and this is projected to increase.

And this is the perfect place to do it. Check out this site that has free release forms online.
