Audi Hybrid and Electric Vehicles - Long lineup planned for 2012

With electric and hybrid vehicles increasing in popularity, Volkswagen Group’s Audi line of vehicles expects to offer its customers a robust choice of hybrid and electric (EV) automobiles by 2012. The automaker is shooting for a 30 percent increase in internal combustion engine efficiency and for five percent of Audi vehicles to be electric.
The new lineup features the high-efficiency A8 Hybrid, a 2.0 liter, 211 horsepower sedan that incorporates a powerful 45-hp motor. The hybrid is quick, but with a very favorable 38 mpg efficiency rating. Although the A8 was released as a concept car at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, it appears to be very close to market release.
A hybrid version of the Q5 crossover vehicle is expected to join the A8 on showroom floors followed within the next two years by the A6 Hybrid. The A6 Hybrid will be a fuel/electric version of Audi’s long-popular A6 sedan design.
The release of these hybrid vehicles is intended to cement Audi’s E-tron brand in the same way as Quattro became synonymous with Audi’s all-wheel-drive vehicle designs.
