Australians Will Be Able to Earn $10,000 a Year for Supplying Grid from Rooftop Solar
The New South Wales government has just introduced a Solar Bonus Scheme that allows residents to earn as much as $10,000 a year to send clean electricity to the grid from solar panels on their own roofs. The incentive is a Feed-in Tariff, which is a cash payment for renewable electricity produced by anybody. Any extra electricity you produce that goes to the grid is paid for by your utility. New South Wales is actually paying grid contributors three times the cost of a kwh purchased from the grid - so if a kwh costs 19 cents, those contributing clean power make 60 cents per kwh. Pretty sweet deal. Hopefully this will make solar take off in Australia to the same degree it did in Germany when Germany offered such incentives.
