Borrego: A Leader in Solar Installation and Maintenance
Borrego is focused on designing, building, operating, and maintaining solar electric systems. The company started out catering their services solely to residents, but they have since then expanded their range of clients to include government and commercial clients. Currently, Borrego is focusing on middle market commercial and government projects, so they no longer do work on single family homes. Vanessa from buildaroo.com interviewed Mike Hall, CEO of Borrego at this year’s Intersolar.
When a client is interested in installing solar panels through Borrego, a Borrego representative pays a visit to the client’s site where a facility-needs analysis is performed taking into consideration the client’s budget and electrical needs. Once this is done, the client then decides what steps to take next.
Mike mentioned that Borrego is currently doing a lot work in the education industry, specifically K-12. And in higher education, Borrego is making an effort to integrate solar electricity into the green initiatives taking place within college campuses. Borrego has also been focusing on opportunities resulting from Obama’s stimulus package, such as additional subsidies for multi-unit housing, VA buildings, and municipalities.
In terms of corporate sustainability, Borrego does have a bay area green business certification, and they claim to vigorously strive to recycle consistently. In addition, their sales team utilizes a fleet of hybrid vehicles.

[...] Borrego Solar Systems, Inc., a leading designer and installer of grid-tied solar electric power systems, has recently introduced a new financing option for schools, companies and government organizations interested in adopting solar energy. Borrego’s new power-purchase agreement (PPA) program gives its customers a way to finance a solar project without having to assume the up-front costs of the project or work with a third-party financier. With $30 million backing from a PPA fund launched by Walsin Lihwa, a current investor, Borrego is able develop and finance more than $100 million solar projects over the next 12 months. Borrego has already received interest in the program from early customers in Massachusetts, New Jersey and California. [...]
