FSC Wood and Lumber Products from Jackel Enterprise
Steve from Jackel Enterprises shared with us that before he entered the lumber industry, he made instruments for 16 years, so he had substantial familiarity with wood. He subsequently started a lumberyard in Watsonville called Jackel Enterprises, and in this company's practices he incorporates a Japanese philosophy. This powerful philosophy states that a 1,000 year old tree harvested should build a temple that will last a 1,000 years; in other words, wood workers should make products that will last for generations. Steve also took pride in telling me that Jackel Enterprises is the 41st company to be certified by FSC, and that the company kept this certification even though it has not added as significantly as they had hoped to their sales! That's quite a commitment to sustainability!
Jackel Enterprise's sustainable product featured at the PCBC Conference was FSC Certified Box beams made of Douglas Fir. These are made to look similar to Timber and geared towards the upper-end market.
