Cali Bamboo, a flooring company based in San Diego, California, recently released a type of bamboo flooring that it claims is a good choice when you need something "indestructible." Their strand woven HD Fossilized Bamboo Flooring was recently tested by Professional Service Industries, Inc. and found to have a Janka scale rating of over 5,000, making Cali Bamboo's Fossilized bamboo flooring one of the hardest kinds of flooring available.
Janka ratings measure the hardness of flooring by pressing a steel ball into wood up to the ball's halfway point. The amount of pressure needed to push the ball to that point is the flooring's Janka scale rating. The Janka rating of balsa wood is around 100, while the Janka rating of a harder wood like ipe is around 3,600 pounds. Cali Bamboo's Fossilized Bamboo Flooring withstood over 5,000 pounds of pressure.
