Cash for Caulkers Program Is a Great Deal - Could Realistically Green Up America's Homes
The Obama administration's new Home Star "cash for caulkers" program definitely offers a great bang for the buck. The government will pay you up to half the cost of energy retrofitting your home up to a limit of $4,000. And unlike past incentives, the Home Star program will offer immediate upfront money, allowing homeowners to realistically investment into energy efficiency even in these economic times. Quite impressive considering the pathetic $1500 tax credit offered for retrofitting your windows to more energy efficient ones. The government believes that this $23 billion program will retrofit 6 million homes and put a quarter of a million unemployed construction workers back to work.

To up-date your home to save energy is always a great idea anytime of year, with or without the goverment's help. Because the long term cash savings of up-dating your home for energy efficiency, will always pay for itself! If you own a home build after 1985, you are most likely ok in the energy efficiency department, but if it was built before 1985 you will need an energy efficiency overhaul, and if you can somehow get the goverment to pay for it, all the better!
