CertainTeed EnerGen Thin-Film PV and Sustainable Insulation Featured at 2010 International Builders Show
CertainTeed is showing multiple new sustainable products at the 2010 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, but two that caught our attention are EnerGen, a photovoltaic (PV) roofing panel for residential applications, and Sustainable Insulation, a new fiberglass insulation product that incorporates recycled materials, a bio-based organic binder, and a low impact manufacturing process and meets California Indoor Air Quality Requirements. The EnerGen system features integrate thin-film photovoltaic laminates from UNI-SOLAR that seamlessly integrate with traditional asphalt roofing shingles. The lightweight and flexible design requires no rooftop penetrations making the system easier for conventional roofing contractors to install.
Five other new CertainTeed products showcased at IBS are:
WeatherBoards Fiber Cement Siding Shakes - durable, noncombustible siding with 50 percent recycled content; available in three sizes, can be installed with a straight or staggered edge.
CedarBoards Board & Batten Insulated Siding - 10-inch board and 2-inch batten, the industry’s widest vinyl board span – and features an even, flat-face board design replicating the look of true cedar board in an easy-care, low-maintenance material. Its custom-contoured foam backing helps increase the overall thermal performance of a wall by up to 30 percent, improves exterior wall strength and impact resistance, and reduces exterior noise.
EverNew Decking and Railing - Four new decking and railing products – EverNew PT and EverNew 20 decking, EverNew Spectrum and EverNew 20 railing - Each of the products offer the realistic appearance of wood in a durable, low-maintenance material, backed by a 20-year warranty; average recycled content of 25 percent; resistant to insect damage, splinters and decay.
ProRoc Extra Abuse Gypsum Board with M2Tech - With a specially formulated, fire-resistant Type X noncombustible core, the board is enclosed in 100 percent recycled paper that is treated with bio inhibitors to protect against mold growth. In addition, the board offers greater resistance to abuse in busier areas of a building than regular gypsum board.
Theatre Black f Ceiling Panels - Fiberglass ceiling panel specifically developed to meet acoustical and aesthetic requirements and is ideal for entertainment areas. The decorative rich black matte finish creates a unique atmosphere without any shine or reflection, while also maintaining acoustical control with an NRC of .75-.90. The recycled content of this product is 33-39 percent.
