Fireclay Tiles: Recycled Glass Clay Tiles
Tim did a great interview with Paul of Fireclay Tile at Dwell on Design 2009. Paul started his business 24 years ago, to make high quality handmade tiles for residential and commercial use. He began using refuse and recycled material quite a long time ago, and has since evolved his product to use recycled glass waste, from post consumer recycling. Almost 25% of the makeup of Fireclay's tiles is composed of recycled glass. The recycled glass helps make the clay tile stronger and more durable than regular clay tile. Every Fireclay Tile product is made to custom order, allowing the customer flexibility in design, color, and shape. Fireclay Tiles can contribute to LEED points for their 50% recycled content, and if you are within 500 miles of San Jose, you can receive LEED points for buying from a local manufacturer.
