Fletcher Wood Solutions - Long Lasting, Durable & FSC Certified

We interviewed Dave from Fletcher Wood Solutions at this year's PCBC conference.  Dave highlighted one of their lines called LifeSpan, which consists of trim boards, fascia, siding & exterior moldings that are 100% real wood and FSC certified.  According to Dave, the products in this line are extremely stable because they do not soak up water. Fletcher Wood Solutions products are FSC certified, qualify for LEED points, and have a long life. As a result, they save trees!  And according to Dave, their products are cost competitive to other similar products, and they work better than other non-green products. Ambika: Hi.  I'm speaking with Dave from Fletcher Wood Solutions.  Dave, can you tell us a little bit about your company?

Dave: We're a New Zealand based company, and we've been coming to the United States for about 20 years. All of our products are FSC certified, and at this years' show, we are highlighting our product called LifeSpan. It's an exterior grade trim board for siding, and it comes in a wide range of profiles. It has a 30 year warranty, is rot resistant, decay resistant, and it doesn't wick up water so it's extremely stable.

Ambika: How is LifeSpan green?

Dave: LifeSpan's substrate is made completely from FSC certified materials. In addition, it saves trees since it has a long lifespan and does not need to be replaced every 15 to 20 years. LifeSpan comes with a 30 year warranty, but it's not unreasonable to expect a life-time of 2 to 3 times that amount.

Ambika: Wow.  LifeSpan sounds amazing.  Do builders get any LEED credits from using this product?

Dave: It does. You can use the LifeSpan product and the Fletcher range of products to qualify for LEED credits.

Ambika: Does Fletcher have other products that are green besides LifeSpan?

Dave: Yes.  In our Fletcher Select brand we have FSC certified clear Radiata Pine boards and solid lineal mouldings. We also have a wide range of green lumber products.

Ambika: And all of these products qualify for LEED credits?

Dave: All of them do qualify for LEED credits.

Ambika: Why should a builder use your products instead of other similar products?

Dave: Performance.  Our siding products come with tension relief grooves and a weep.  No other OSB has that.  The product is extremely stable, and it comes with a green certification.

Ambika: How does the cost of your product compare with that of other products?

Dave: In it's category, it is very competitive. We're able to compete with products in a price range between composite material and fiber-cement materials.

Ambika: It's cost efficient and it works just as well as any alternatives, and it's green certified.

Dave: That's correct.
