Power Purchase Agreements allow you to Go Solar Without Spending Money Upfront
Photon Energy Services focuses Power Purchase Agreements on Public Schools
Photon Energy Services specializes in Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), allowing people to benefit from solar power without spending the upfront money for installation. Using a power purchase agreement, a company or investor pays the upfront costs of a solar power project in exchange for a contract requiring the customer to buy the resulting electricity. Photon Energy Services provides Power Purchase Agreements primarily to commercial, institutional and government sectors. Below, Dustin from Photon Energy Services explains how Power Purchase Agreements works.
Photon Energy Services is currently working on a project for the Diocese of San Jose. Under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement, the Diocese will pay for the energy produced by the solar equipment. Dustin said he believes that the Diocese will save a significant amount of money over the life of the Power Purchase Agreement contract.
Photon Energy Services also strives to make solar easier on its customers. Customers do not need to be experts in solar. Photon and its partners, Perpetual Energy and NBL Energy, will take a look at how and when a customer uses electricity and the cost of electricity in the area to give the customer an idea about potential savings by using solar. Photon ensures that under the Power Purchase Agreement the customer pays less by using solar than he or she currently pays in electrical bills.
Photon Energy Services is currently targeting its Power Purchase Agreements at the public school districts. These public schools are experiencing a lot of pressure to go green, but they don't have a lot of capital. In addition, since school districts are not tax payers, they cannot take advantage of tax incentives, which are currently mostly in the form of tax credits. Another option for school districts is to use a bond to prepay their electricity under Power Purchase Agreements, thereby eliminating prepaid electric bills from their operating budgets and freeing up money for other necessities, such as paying teachers.
