Hopfoot - Simplify Your Space with Sustainable Design
Written by: Ricky Mak at buildaroo.com
Our own Tim interviewed Sandi, one of the three founders of Hopfoot, a design firm based in San Diego, with offices in Chicago and Italy. Their mission is "To Offer Products and Design Solutions which Refine and Simplify the Spaces in which we Live and Work." Hopfoot is a team of architects and designers conversant in CAD and fully capable to support you through the entire design cycle - from planning to product selection to implementation and product support. Hopfoot provides high end products, product designs and related design services focusing on residential and commercial interior-exterior spaces.
At the CA Boom exhibition this year, Hopfoot's booth featured a few sustainable bathrooms. The first products Sandi shared with us were part of the Skyline series, a group of bathroom accessory products made out of plyboo, or layered bamboo. Bamboo is a renewable resource that grows an astonishing 18" a day! The products featured in the Skyline series included stylish containers to hide plungers, toilet paper and toilet brushes. The skyline series is made with a friendly water based polyurethane coating, and the glue that keeps the product together is formaldehyde-free.
Sandi also spoke with us about a vanity on display made out of FSC certified wenge wood, with a water based coat and a formaldehyde free glue. The wash basin sink connected to the vanity is comprised of solid travertine classic which Sandi admits is not renewable; however, they use the travertine excess for bathroom accessories.
The last bathroom vanity showcased was made out of solid plyboo, and has an eco-friendly coat and glue. Sandi said that Hopfoot does not use any veneers in their products. This plyboo vanity also featured a recycled glass sink mixed with resin.

Hi there,
are you sure you got some wenge in fsc certified quality, as far as we know
there's no fsc-wenge available, danish guys
are working on it, but they will need years.
As an fsc controled company we are always
looking to improve our assortment, maybe you
can propose a supplier.
Best regards

Hey,
Thanks for the question. Just heard back from Hopfoot. Their supplier is Inter-continental Hardwoods. Website: http://www.ichardwoods.com They get their woods from sustainably managed forests. Let me know if you have any other questions.
