India Government Subsidies Assisting with Ambitious Solar Plan
Although criticized for its stubborn stance on climate change during the U.N. Climate Change conference in Copehagen, India is becoming one of the most proactive developing countries when it comes to clean energy. With 9,000 megawatts of solar up and running, India has set a goal to have 20,000 megawatts of solar capacity by 2022, enough power to run about 20 million U.S. households. The government says it is willing to provide 90 percent of the support needed to make a number of solar plants operational. It has also set down policies requiring solar panels in all government buildings. This plan involves 20 million square-meters of photovoltaic panels and is planned to take around 12 years to complete.
