Innovation in Sustainability & Innovation in Design - Now that's Green.

Written by: Tali from buildaroo.com

Just got back from Dwell on Design 09 and Caboom 09.  We had a blast covering both conferences.  Thanks to all who gave us the opportunity to interview them!  We are busy at work editing the interviews and getting them up so check in with us over the next couple of days.  We should have a whole bunch of new video interviews from both conferences, featuring the latest and greatest in green building products.  Sneak preview of what's to come:

Axor by Hansgrohe water efficient faucets - This super stylish high end company now has faucets that are WaterSense certified.  You can now be super stylish while still saving the environment!

Kohler water efficient faucets - The company that has earned our confidence for durability and reliability now has faucets that are WaterSense certified.  And the cost?  It's the same as their other faucets!  Who ever said going green had to be more expensive?

Vetrazzo Recycled Glass Surfaces - If you haven't ever heard of Vetrazzo, you have to check it out.  Recycled glass made into sustainable countertops that are each beautifully unique.  For those looking to join the green movement away from mined stone, you should definitely check this company out.

Kirei - Check this company out for cool sustainable alternatives to wood flooring.  Some of the options are Sorghum, Wheat, Bamboo and Coconut flooring.  Coconut flooring?  Now that's innovative!

Fireclay Tile - This company uses Recycled Ceramic and recycled glass in manufacturing ceramic tiles.  Particularly noteworthy is that Fireclay Tile manufactures their product using leftover glass that cannot be recycled through traditional means.  And to add to this, they have a tile Boneyard in San Jose, CA!

Now, for those of you who thought that going green had to be all about saving the environment, I hope the next few videos will open up your eyes to other elements of going green.  I mean saving the environment is definitely of the utmost importance, but how much better is it to save the environment while still staying stylish and hip!  To me, going green is about overall innovation - innovation in sustainability and innovation in design.  And the companies that we will be posting over the next few days definitely get an A in my book for both!  Stay tuned for more to come!

Please replace Grohe with Hansgrohe - two different companies. Hansgrohe was the company exhibiting at the show.
