LivingHome Prefab in Newport Beach Achieves LEED Platinum

Living Home Newport Beach

Yesterday, LivingHomes announced that a new, permanently installed LivingHome in Newport Beach, California -- designed by the 2008 AIA Firm of the Year, KieranTimberlake, and used as a demonstration home for the 2009 TED Conference -- has been certified LEED Platinum. With 10 homes completed and another three in production, LivingHomes is quickly growing.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification program administered by the U.S. Green Building Council is a widely adopted standard for green building. Platinum is the highest achievable level, and the rating system takes into account building performance in five areas: energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, materials selection, sustainable site development and water savings.

About the LivingHome, Newport Beach

As with all LivingHomes products, the LivingHome in Newport Beach was designed to achieve the“Z6” environmental goals LivingHomes strives to achieve with its homes: zero energy, zero water, zero indoor emissions, zero waste, zero carbon, and zero ignorance. From the recycled steel and timber-efficient engineered lumber that make up the modules, central vacuum system, and mini-duct air distribution and ventilation systems that help improve indoor air quality; to the bio-composite wood siding, recycled glass tiles, blown-in insulation, high performance windows with recycled frames, and water-saving features, such as low-flow water fixtures and dual flush toilets, the LivingHome Newport Beach is built to achieve a minimal environmental footprint. Since it's installation in Newport Beach, the home has been outfitted with photovoltaics as well.

The floorplan for the home, model KTLH 1.5, can be found on the LivingHomes site where you can explore and configure your own LivingHome.

LivingHomes will host an Open House at the LivingHome Newport Beach on October 9 and 10, 2010. To request an invitation to the Open House, email [email protected]
