Milgard Introduces Energy-Efficient Essence Wood Window Line

Milgard Windows & Doors introduced a brand new wood window and door series - its new Essence Series - at the 2010 Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) this month. The Essence Series is a low maintenance window with a fiberglass exterior surface that looks just like wood, and the beauty of real wood on the interior surface.

Milgard's Essence wood windows provide the interior beauty of wood, the durability of a full fiberglass exterior, longevity, energy efficiency, and savings on energy bills. With the triple glaze option, U values can be as low as .22.  These windows meet 2010 EnergyStar standards and qualify for a federal tax credit.  They also come with a lifetime warranty.  Check out Milgard's Essence Wood windows in the video below.

The exterior fiberglass finish of the Milgard Essence wood windows is available in 15 different color options. The interior wood is available in pine, mixed grain Douglas fir, and pre-primed pine. Lead times for the windows are short, three to four weeks, and windows are available for both new construction and replacement. Installation is easy due to the outside brick molds and J channels the company provides. There are no visible fasteners, nail holes, or staple marks on Milgard's Essence wood windows. Double hung and gliding windows are available with classic spoon locks or with Milgard's patented SmartTouch lock, recognized for effortless operation and forward-looking design.

Another environmental aspect to be aware of is that Milgard has manufacturing located regionally across the U.S. Manufacturing, installation, and servicing of windows will be done regionally, creating less impact on the environment than trucking products all the way across the country.

One disappointing fact is that the wood for Milgard's Essence wood windows is not yet certified sustainably harvested.  However, Milgard reassured us that they are working on this and that it is their plan to soon have these windows constructed of sustainably harvested wood.

The Milgard Essence series will be available in the fall of 2010 on the West Coast, and in early 2011 for the Midwest and East Coast.
