NVIDIA Ion 2 Graphics Card: Longer Battery Life and Punched Up Graphics Performance

Netbook users have long dreamed of enough computer ‘juice’ to be able to get great graphics performance while also getting decent battery life. The two features have seemed mutually exclusive – until now. Chip-maker NVIDIA is introducing a graphics card that promises to make all those power netbook users very happy.
The ION 2 graphics processing unit (GPU) is designed specifically for netbooks. According to NVIDIA, the speedy GPU can deliver 10 times the graphics performance of standard netbooks without chomping up battery power. In fact, ION 2’s Optimus ™ technology allows up to 10 hours of battery life. That’s 10 glorious hours of being able to enjoy smooth HD media in Internet-based video, movies, and games.
The first ION 2 products will be available in April, 2010 with more than 30 products by summer. Acer, ASUS, and Lenovo are among several vendors expected to launch ION 2 netbooks this year. Gamers, power media users and off-grid enthusiasts rejoice!
