Philips EnduraLED Available at Home Depot in December
Philips EnduraLED offers 60 watt equivalent warm white light output from a 12 watt LED bulb
Philips is bringing its new EnduraLED bulbs to the consumer market via Home Depot stores, which will carry the bulbs later this year. The 12-watt LED bulb will reach shelves early in December at a retail price between $40 and $50.
Designed to replace the ubiquitous 60-watt incandescent light bulb, the new Philips EnduraLED bulb has a different shape and color than other LED bulbs we’ve seen in the past. It is a darker yellow, almost a goldenrod color, and has a flat top rather than the bulbous look of past LEDs. It provides more light than most other LEDs, producing more than the usual 40 watt equivalent output.
In addition to providing enough light to equal a 60-watt incandescent bulb, the Philips EnduraLED bulb is dimmable and releases a "warm white" glow, according to the Department of Energy Lighting Facts information about the bulb. It's shape is also designed to increase light dispersal.
The current line of LED bulbs sold at Home Depot under the EcoSmart label, which includes spotlights, downlights and general-use LEDs, do not provide as much light output at the Philips EnduraLED, and the light is a clear white rather than a warm white.
At a price of $40-$50 a bulb, the Philips EnduraLED is not the cheapest LED bulb Home Depot is selling. But considering its light output and the estimated 25,000 hour lifespan, (about 3 years) the Philips EnduraLED seems like a great energy efficient lighting option.
