Porsche looking to get Exemption from new Fuel Efficiency Standards

Porsche 911 Turbo

Porsche has recently taken the initial steps to secure an exemption from the EPA’s 2016 fuel consumption rating of 42 MPG. Earlier this year, the renowned German Sports Car manufacturer claims the restrictions are impractical and excessive since their high performance cars are being forced into a position of fuel efficiency leader, a distinction that should remain for the typical economy car.

The restrictions and demands that are being placed on Porsche seem to be detached from reality when one considers the premise for the restrictions. Sports cars, especially high performance cars such as Porsche, Ferarri and Lamborghini in particular have already gone to costly extremes to comply with the Department of Transportation and the EPA’s ever changing emission regulations. The efforts on the part of these auto makers is nothing short of remarkable in that they have all managed to maintain their status and prestige among consumers, while at the same time, comply with increasingly stringent requirements.
