Prism Makes $1 a Watt Unique Solar Hybrid of Holographic Thin-Film and PV

prism solar cells

Regions with low levels of sun exposure tend to have a problem when it comes to solar energy generation: they need more solar panels to create the same level of power as in a sunny area.  This can be very expensive.  Prism Solar Technologies has developed an innovative holographic thin-film ("Holographic Planar Concentrator") that helps generate solar electricity using fewer crystalline PV cells.

Each of the Prism Solar Technologies solar modules is made up of both crystalline PV and their unique holographic thin-film. The thin-film strips diffract both direct and reflected energy to the PV cell strips integrated between strips of thin-film. This results in cheaper solar modules that use 50-72% less silicon to make the same energy.

For those who are interested in knowing whom for the first time realised an holographic prism which collected the light there was an international patent who was taken if i am not wrong in 1993 and whom at that time was Professor Gutjahr in Germany together with Dr Lessing .Unfortunately one International and well known company whom was manufacturing that Holographic film let the project die in 1997.It was a very sorry decision by a direction whom could not look into the future .It was a pity !!
