Proposed Bill would Allow Communities to Share Solar Benefits

If you are an apartment owner or a homeowner whose house is covered by too much shade, you currently cannot receive the benefits of a solar installation. Colorado State Rep Claire Levy has proposed a bill in an attempt to address this problem. The bill would allow multiple people to buy shares of an off-site solar installation and receive a portion of the benefits of the solar energy, from installation cost reductions to net-metering credits for excess electric generation. The bill would allow off-site solar installations that are community-owned to qualify for the state’s renewable energy rebates. Of course this is just a bill, and it still remains to be seen whether it is passed and in what form, but it's still an interesting proposition and one that many states should consider.
