Transmission Systems with Zero Power Loss could come out of Scientific Breakthrough

transmission systems energy efficiency smart grid

The DOE estimates that the nation’s antiquated transmission and distribution systems together lose about 9.5% power. Brookhaven Laboratories recently made a breakthrough that could solve this problem and result in transmission systems that do not lose any power. The breakthrough involved evidence that electronic liquid crystal states can exist within a high temperature superconductor. As exciting as this breakthrough is, scientists still need to test whether the material can perform in the same manner in real world conditions.
