Bridgelux Helieon LED lighting reduce energy use by 30 percent
The time-honored image of a light bulb above someone’s head indicating a bright idea may soon be replaced with the image of LED lighting in a round plastic case. Bridgelux is set to introduce in May a snap-in LED lighting system that may eventually make incandescent bulbs obsolete.
The Bridgelux Helieon Light Module is mounted into a fixture that looks something like a smoke alarm. Designed to snap into specially made lamps and other lighting equipment, the Bridgelux Helieon LED lighting products provide as much illumination as 40 to 100 watt light bulbs but require only 20 to 30 percent of the energy.
As well as being energy efficient, the Bridgelux Helieon LED is reasonably priced at about $20 to $25 each. This is about one-fourth the price of LED bulbs just two years ago. Additionally, a single bulb can last more than 10 years and can reap an average of $12 in energy cost savings each year.
Commercial customers will be the first to receive the Helieon products but it shouldn’t be too long before consumer products are available. Affordable, energy-efficient lighting – that’s the real bright idea.
