It’s no surprise that the economic downturn hurt the solar energy industry. It does come as a bit of a surprise, however, that the industry is so shaken as to make solar modules dollar store ready.
With the push for alternative energy and zero carbon emissions came great opportunity for the already established solar energy industry. In the years leading up to the financial implosion in 2008, the industry saw its demand quadruple, and solar cell suppliers quickly produced an equivalent supply. When the economy took a turn, however, the industry saw an unprecedented drop in sales, as homeowners and flat-roof business owners alike decided that it just wasn’t the year to splurge on energy-saving mediums.
Two years later, the warehouses are still overstocked and the solar construction crews are still on permanent holiday. We are now seeing just how dire the situation is for solar panel producers, as a small company has recently offered polycrystalline silicon panels for just over a dollar each! The industry must find a way to market solar panels as a necessity and not a luxury, or solar-powered communities may become just wistful thinking.

I'm cnruertly interning in a solar company that used a production line. 90% is done by machine and only the frame and eva protective layer is placed by hand (oh, and soldering after the lamination). I can now understand why? solar panels were even more expensive then they are cnruertly
