Top LED Light Bulbs of 2011 Review
Top LED Light bulbs under $60: Our exclusive buildaroo review of screw-in replacement LED Light bulbs.
During the 2011 shopping seasons many shoppers are interested in purchasing led light bulbs, and as a result many popular led light bulbs are in short supply and sell out quickly. However, product demand is not always an accurate measure of product quality, and a smart consumer knows that it is necessary to do a tremendous amount of research before purchasing screw-in LED light bulbs.
At buildaroo we understand this difficulty, and since we are excited by the possibilities offered by LED light bulbs, we have decided to create a comprehensive comparison review of the currently available LED light bulbs that a consumer can find at major retailers. We can't promise that the LED light bulbs will be available, but our hope is that by arming you with accurate knowledge, you will be able to make an informed decision when you take our your wallet and invest in upgrading your home or office with LED light bulbs.
Why are we recommending LED light bulbs now? LED light bulbs have now been available for many years, but until this year they were really impractical for all but a select group of consumers, such as early-adopters and true lighting enthusiasts. It wasn't until 2010 that pricing dropped to a range that, while expensive, is still affordable to an average consumer. Also in 2010, advanced LED light bulb technology improved to a level of refinement and reliability that it can be a true screw-in replacement to existing incandescent or compact fluorescent lighting fixtures.
Recent technological improvements include improved life expectancy, enhanced light quality, and the ability to dim the bulbs. Finally, 2010 saw the first releases of affordable LED light bulbs from major lighting manufacturers such as Philips and Sylvania, signaling that lights with LED technology now have the kind of warranty support that wise consumers demand when making significant and costly purchases.
Our comparison review will look at the following five bulbs:
1. Philips 12-Watt A19 EnduraLED Light Bulb (60-Watt incandescent equivalent)
2. GE 9 watt Energy Smart LED Light Bulb (40-Watt incandescent equivalent)
3. Sylvania Ultra LED 12-Watt dimmable LED Light Bulb (60-Watt incandescent equivalent)
4. Feit Electric 7-Watt BPA19 LED Light Bulb (40-Watt incandescent equivalent)
5. Pharox 300 (Pharox60) LED Light Bulb. (60-Watt incandescent equivalent)
All LED light bulbs are from major manufacturers and are intended to be used as screw-in replacements for typical incandescent light bulbs in the 40-60W range and for compact fluorescent light bulbs in the same equivalent range. All LED light bulbs we review are designed to run on 120v power, although we expect that the our review should be consistent for international (non-U.S.) models running on 220v or 240v. Some of these LED light bulbs are dimmable while others are not, and as our reviews will show, the dimmable LED light bulbs are currently priced at a premium due to the additional complexity of the LED dimming technology. As well, when selecting a dimmable LED light bulb, you must be aware that not all dimmable LED light bulbs are alike, and they may not be compatible with all types of light bulb dimmers. Where applicable, we will discuss the details of a LED light bulb's compatibility with various bulb dimmers.
