Toshiba Ends Incandescent Bulb Production & Cuts CO2 emissions by 430,000 tons
Toshiba has ended production of most of its incandescent bulbs, a product which the company has manufactured for 120 years. Toshiba has decided to focus on their environmentally friendly lighting products, particularly LED lighting. The end of Toshiba's incandescent bulb production comes a year ahead of the original plan and marks the end for a total of 103 products.
Toshiba has been gradually reducing its incandescent bulb manufacturing quantity. With a peak production of 78 million incandescent bulbs in the 1970's, Toshiba gradually decreased production to 7 million last year. In contrast, the company increased fluorescent light production to 14 million last year.
Toshiba's manufacturing decision is expected to bring down the company's carbon dioxide emissions by 430,000 tons a year.
