Walmart Turning a Green Leaf with Solar
Walmart is getting closer to its goal of using 100% renewable energy with a new deal bringing rooftop solar power to five Puerto Rico stores. According to Walmart Puerto Rico President and CEO Renzo Casillo, Walmart stores are currently 21% more energy-efficient than their original 2005 stores. He said that through the implementation of energy-saving strategies and the installation of energy-efficient equipment, last year Walmart stores achieved an 8.7% reduction in energy consumption compared to the previous year. The 5 store Puerto Rico solar project will be the largest project ever developed in Puerto Rico's history. This 1,056-solar panel system spanning 2,173.5 meters in Aguascalientes, Mexico will also be the largest photovoltaic solar energy system in Latin America.
