With a Few Small Changes, We Can Affordably Cut US Carbon Emissions By 7.4%

Carbon Footprint

A new study released by Michigan State researchers confirms what people of the efficiency first crowd have been saying for years: It is possible for Americans to make a significant dent in US carbon emissions without spending a lot of money and without sacrificing comfort. So what is this new technology that sounds so miraculous? Is it a new wind turbine technology, or perhaps a new type of PV system? Well not really... it's in fact a combination of two incredible modern technologies: The first has the scientific name 'fixing all those stupid air leaks and upgrading the old faucets and appliances in our home' and the second is called 'selling that old junky car and buying something that gets over 25 MPG'.

Although it may sound silly, if these ideas are adopted en masse the US will benefit from an over 7% reduction in annual carbon emissions. The 7% is a pretty big deal and it's really a pretty huge reduction - we would be reducing carbon emissions by an amount equal to the annual emissions of the country of France. Most of these upgrades also have an excellent 3-5 year payback period (depending on the amount of heating/cooling you use and the amount of miles you drive), and there are a lot of financing options available from federal, state and local governments to help defray the up-front costs.

We are showing TVA their finished energy efficiency campaign and they are loving it. I'm confused by this, but happy.
